"I prefer the old
system of THAC0 and saves, but the C&C game is close to that and
vital,
something that can not be said for OAD&D." --Gary Gygax,
Dragonsfoot
I'm an old-school Dungeons & Dragons player, and cut my teeth on BX in the early 80s. Later, I played in a First Edition campaign for a number of years; I've put together some game narratives and pictures from those days.
I came back to the game in 2011, and in 2014 began attending conventions again, where I had the chance to play in games run by some of the legends of gaming like Frank Mentzer, Mike Mornard, Ernie and Luke Gygax, Ed Greenwood, Jeff "Chirine Ba Kal" Berry, and Dave Weseley. However, I eventually had a crisis of faith regarding First Edition. In the summer of 2015, I was introduced to Castles & Crusades (here's me on Steve Chenault's right playing at at GaryCon), and I've come to believe that it's the best by far of the "Old School Revival" games. These are the house rules I use to run it.
I've run campaigns based on the BX module B4 ("The Lost City") several times:
Attention! A recent discovery concerning the Horn of Zargon has made it necessary to prepare a new Castles & Crusades campaign! It is also based in the BX "Known World" (i.e. Mystara). Those adventurers brave (or foolish) enough to consider such an undertaking will find further information here.
