World of Commodore 2008

This year's World of Commodore, organized by the Toronto PET Users Group, was really outstanding. All the latest gadgets were shown, and there were a lot of good times with the usual Commodore suspects. In fact, I got so many good pictures that I split them up into two pages this time. Dinner on Friday at a Greek restaurant with the best lamb I ever tasted. Clockwise round the table from the lower left: Jason, Lime-Mack, Golan, Macbeth/PSW, Fuzz/PSW, Ian.

Party in Golan's room back at the hotel, Friday night.

Golan prepares a PET for sale to a Commodore user recently returned to the fold. He came to the room at midnight to pick up the machine, and joined us all at the show on Saturday as well.

Never mind the GPS, just follow the chickenheads! Rumor has it that some of the signs were stolen... you may want to check eBay.

Show entrance, Saturday morning. The show was held in the basement of Alderwood United Church, which has a long history with TPUG (until recently, they used PETs!). On the far left is John Easton, who sold me the rare MICOL assembler for the C64. Bring me compilers, that I may feed upon them and grow strong!

Attendance was excellent, with a steady stream of people passing through all day long.

Opening remarks by Greg van Laere, TPUG president, who welcomed us all to the show and kicked off a spectacular array of demos.

Joe Palumbo of JPPBM with his 1581 kits, which is the best way to buy one nowadays. These cases were rescued from Commodore when they gutted them to put the drives in Amigas. Just add floppy mech and stir! Joe can also sell you a new SuperSnapsnot cartridge. (The mint copy of Might and Magic II on the table is mine, all mine!)

Syd Boulton attended, representing his computer museum.

Syd shows off his wares. I picked up a CD full of MOD files and another of graphics prepared on an Amiga.

A lonely PET just waiting to be adopted... he didn't have to wait long for someone to give him a good home with a nice warm blanket by the fireplace.

Steve Gray, resident B128 expert, with a couple of these rare beauties. He gave me a detailed explanation of them, which rounded out my Commodore knowledge nicely.

This is the wild paint job that tone007 had been telling us about in IRC lately. De gustibus non disputandem est...

And this is one of his stylishly detailed Amigas. Makes you want to log on and buy one, doesn't it? Don't make me do it!

Jim Mazurek's C16, with a good selection of software for this rare machine.

Now this is something you don't see every day... an eager buyer snatched it up and lovingly carried it away to its new home.

Toni Westbrook brought Shredz64, his port of Guitar Hero to the Commodore 64. He also was selling the PSX64 adapter that allows the guitar controller to be plugged into the Commodore's joystick port.

Rockin' out with Shredz64. Toni Westbrook in blue, leaning toward the screen. There are more pictures on the demos page.

Ernie Chorny of TPUG presents Jim Butterfield's widow Vicky with some of the Canadian Postal Service's commemorative stamps.

A ticket holder anxiously awaits the outcome of the raffle.

One of two dinners on Saturday night. From lower left moving clockwise: Cenbe, Transactor editor Karl Hildon, Fuzz/PSW, Golan, Ian, Dragos' family. From lower right moving counter-clockwise: Lime-Mack, Macbeth/PSW, Jason, Hellion, and Dragos.

After-party back at the hotel. I left at about 0230.
