Borobudur at Dawn

Back

Borobudur is the largest Buddhist monument in the world. It's not actually a temple, but rather a teaching tool. Students wind their way around the temple from botton to top, learning from the wall carvings (which takes years). It dates from the ninth century, but was later covered in volcanic ash. It was rediscovered in the 19th century and restored over a period of many decades.
